When a parent is in the hospital or can no longer handle their own bills, a power of attorney is usually the first document a family needs. In Los Angeles County, we come to the home, hospital room, or care facility so the signer does not have to go anywhere.

Need a power of attorney notarized today?
We cover the San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, Pasadena, Glendale, Burbank, and greater Los Angeles. Same-day appointments when the schedule allows. $15 per signature plus travel.
Does a California power of attorney have to be notarized?
A California power of attorney for finances must be either notarized or signed by two qualified witnesses. In practice, notarize it. Banks, title companies, and the county recorder almost always expect a notary acknowledgment, and a power of attorney used for real estate has to be notarized to be recorded.
What the signer needs
- Valid photo ID. A current government ID, or one issued within the last five years. No ID? Credible witnesses may work. See what to do without an ID.
- Understanding. The person signing must understand what they are signing and want to sign it. If they seem confused that day, the notary has to stop.
- The ability to sign. If they cannot write their full name, they can usually sign by mark with witnesses.
Hospitals and care facilities
We do bedside signings at hospitals and care homes across Los Angeles County. Let the nurse or social worker know a notary is coming, and pick a time when the patient is most alert. If the patient is in a skilled nursing facility and also needs an advance health care directive, an ombudsman has to witness that document. See the ombudsman rule.
What it costs
- Notary fee: $15 per signature, the California maximum
- Travel: quoted up front based on distance from Upland
- Witnesses, if needed: $50 per witness

It must be notarized or signed by two qualified witnesses. Notarizing is the safer choice, and it is required if the power of attorney will be recorded for real estate.
Can a notary come to a hospital in Los Angeles County?
Yes. We come to the patient’s room. The patient needs acceptable ID or credible witnesses and must understand what they are signing.
How much does it cost to notarize a power of attorney?
California notaries can charge up to $15 per signature. Travel is added, and you get an all-in quote before we come.
Can you notarize if my parent has dementia?
Only if they understand what they are signing on the day of the appointment. If capacity is in doubt, talk to an attorney first.
